HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition has 6 GB RAM
Snapdragon 680 4G mobile processor is provided in it
It has a big 11-inch display and sharp resolution
I got Honor's new tablet ' HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids' edition for review around Diwali. Testing this tablet for kids was less of a task and more of a responsibility for me. I have two kids at home - one is 7 years old and the other is 2 years old, so I have reviewed this tablet according to their needs. I have also understood how useful a kids' tablet is for adults. In this review , I will talk more about the usage of the tablet than its specifications or features. Its design, display and other features have already been covered in the first impressions, to read which you can click on this link .
For ages 2 years or younger?
When I unboxed the HONOR Pad X8a Kids Edition after reaching home from office, both my daughters insisted on getting it first. After the setup was complete, I first gave this tablet to my younger daughter because I had some doubts.
I had a doubt whether she would be able to handle the 495 gram heavy tab with 11 inch display? Will she be able to use it alone after the display is unlocked?
After holding the Honor Tab by the handle, she started roaming around the house. She was happy to hold a new thing in her hands. She must have been even more happy that I had given the tab to her instead of her elder sister. After roaming around for some time, she handed over the Honor tablet to me and started insisting in her own way that I should unlock it.
After unlocking the tab, I opened YouTube in it and played her favorite kids' videos. She was happy to see a gadget with a big screen in front of her. She watched the videos for some time with great interest, but when it came to changing the video, she got confused, because the interface of YouTube in the tablet is a little different as compared to the mobile. I helped her, but after about 40 minutes, her interest in the tab suddenly ended. Ultimately she liked her mother's mobile phone on which she watches videos every day.
For the next few days, I tried to show her videos on the Honor Tab, but after a while she started insisting for the mobile again. She was not able to handle the tab properly. She needed help again and again. After many days of experience as a father, I have no hesitation in saying that the HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition is not for children up to two years of age. If parents buy it, they will have to help the child in using it.
How is this tab for school going?
Now let's talk about my 7-year-old elder daughter, who studies in first class and uses a smartphone well. After getting a unique, child-style tablet in her hand, she was on cloud nine. First she looked at the tab carefully. Then she kept playing with the stylus attached to it for some time. After a while she unlocked the tab and started using it without my help. She was able to understand MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14 very easily. She went to the Play Store and quickly downloaded many games like 'Pizza Maker', 'Draw Puzzle Line', 'Kids Counting', 'Kids Learn' and started playing. She also used the stylus a lot. Initially, she was not even clicking on the tab without the stylus. However, later she used the stylus more for drawing, painting and gaming.
The stylus is tied to a tab with a thread and attaches at the back. It is as thick as a pencil, making it easy for children to hold. Its touch response is also fast.
My elder daughter was using the tab for 1-1.25 hours every day and the battery had to be charged every 3-4 days. Then the schools were closed due to pollution in Delhi and the classes were moved to online mode. During online classes, I understood the real use of HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition. Due to its excellent design, there was no need to attach the tab to any stand during studies. My daughter was able to attend classes well on the big screen. She was able to interact with her friends. Whatever was taught on the blackboard or book was clearly visible on the big screen. With a 5MP front camera, my daughter's screen presence was also excellent. The 4 speakers in the tab generated loud sound, which made studying easier!
I also liked the HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition in personal use. Its 1920x1200 resolution display with 90Hz refresh rate generates sharp and vivid colors, which makes watching movies and videos fun. The tab did not disappoint at all in indoor use. Yes! During outdoor use, the display became a bit dull in bright sunlight.
With Snapdragon 680 4G mobile processor and 6GB RAM, this tab was a bit slow for me in daily use. After opening 7 to 8 tabs in Google Chrome, it was responding a little late. Heavy gaming was not possible in it, so I did not play heavy games. I did benchmark tests, I will tell you about them later.
User Interface, Camera
The user interface of the Pad X8a Kids Edition is good. It is very simple on MagicOS 8.0 OS based on Android 14. From notifications to control center, everything comes up with a swipe and settings can be done according to your wish. There is a facility of parental control. Also, you can set limits on apps. It can also be found out in which app your child is spending more time. However, some pre-installed apps are available in the tab like Netflix and TikTok. What is the use of these in children's tab?
Cameras do not play much of a role in budget and mid-range tablets. Same is the case with Pad X8a Kids Edition. There is a 5MP camera with f/2.2 AF aperture on the back side, while there is a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.2 AF aperture on the front. Camera performance was good in video calls, online studies. But don't expect photography.
Benchmarks
Now let's talk about the benchmark tests that we did on the Pad X8a Kids Edition. In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the tab got 404 points in single core and 1427 points in multi core. This is equal to the recently reviewed Redmi Pad Se 4g . In GFXBench's T-rex, Manhattan 3.1 and Car Chase tests, it achieved 42fps, 15fps and 7.9fps respectively. In the 3D Mark Wild Life test, the device scored 598. Its Antutu score was 289720. Benchmark tests show that the device is for normal use. Very heavy tasks cannot be done on it. We also tested the 8300mAh battery of the Pad X8a. In the HD video loop test, it lasted 13 hours and 45 minutes, which can be called excellent.
Verdict
In this review, I have shared my experience with HONOR Pad X8a Nadal Kids Edition. Its specs and features can be read in the first impression. As far as my verdict is concerned, as a kids tab, Pad X8a gets full marks for its design, battery and to some extent display. It could have been better on the performance level. The pricing of Rs 13,999 is attractive. If we compare the specifications, there are such tabs available in the market, but the design is the element that sets the Honor Kids Tab apart from the crowd. So different that no one else will be able to replace it right now. If you want to buy a tab for a child, then this will be a 'good' choice.
