Chinese robotics company Unitree has introduced a humanoid robot that is gaining attention for its speed and jumping abilities. The company has named it Superman and claims that it can jump nearly 2 meters without running. Furthermore, its claimed top speed exceeds the fastest human sprint. According to the company, it took just over three months to develop this robot.
According to Unitree, the Superman humanoid robot can perform a standing vertical jump of approximately 2 meters. Interestingly, the robot's leg length is only 0.85 meters. The company claims that its jumping capability surpasses the human standing high jump record. Unitree has also released a demo video, in which the robot can be seen leaping upwards without a run-up. The company presented this demonstration to showcase the physical capabilities of its new machine.
Superman's other major feature is its running speed. Unitree claims the robot can reach a top speed of 12.66 meters per second. Converting this to kilometers per hour, this translates to approximately 45.6 kmph. According to the company, this speed exceeds the fastest sprint speed ever recorded for humans.
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt's name often comes up in this comparison. Bolt's peak speed was recorded at around 12.4 meters per second when he set the 100-meter world record in 2009. Unitree's figure of 12.66 meters per second puts Superman slightly ahead. However, it's important to note that this comparison is based on data taken under different conditions, and Unitree's claims have not yet been independently verified.
Unitree says it took a little over three months to develop Superman. The company presents it as a project to demonstrate the limits of its physical performance. According to Unitree, there's still room for further improvements to the machine in the coming months.
