The content creation market has grown rapidly worldwide in recent years. In countries like India, affordable mobile data, the advent of 5G, and the growing adoption of smartphones have opened up new opportunities for audio-video content creators. According to one estimate, there are approximately 2.5 to 3.5 million content creators in the country, ranging from influencers to YouTubers. Creating any audio-video content requires many tools, one of which is a microphone. Nowadays, every content creator is using a good wireless microphone so that listeners don't have to worry about audio. Brands like Sennheiser, Rode, DJI, and Hollyland are popular in this category. Recently, Sennheiser launched its new wireless microphone, the Sennheiser Profile Wireless. My team and I have been using it for a few weeks. How is this microphone? How useful is it for content creators? Let's find out in our first impressions.

Sennheiser Profile Wireless Price in India

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless has been launched for ₹29,900 and will be available starting in the first quarter of this year.

Packaging

Content creators have to carry a lot of equipment, so packaging plays a crucial role in each of their tools. Excellent packaging is crucial for microphones, as losing a connector can be a problem during shooting. Sennheiser deserves praise for leaving no weak points in the packaging of the Profile Wireless microphone.

You can carry the pouch with one hand. Opening the pouch reveals an all-in-one setup. Simply put, the pouch houses an ultra-portable charging bar that houses all the microphone components. The charging bar can also be used as a handheld (gun) mic.

I liked the packaging of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless. The style is decent. Everything is housed within the charging bar, reducing the chance of losing any tool, provided you're not careless.

What do you get in the box?

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless is a 2-channel all-in-one microphone system. All of its components are housed within the charging bar. It includes a receiver, 2 mics, windscreens for both mics, a foam windscreen for attaching to the top of the charging bar, 2 clip-on mics, 2 clip magnets, a Lightning adapter, a USB-C adapter, a cold shoe adapter, a 3.5mm TRS coiled cable without a lock, and a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Design

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless' design is one of its key strengths. The matte-finished charging bar is lightweight despite being packed with numerous components. It's about the size of your palm. The charging bar has three buttons and a compartment that houses all the components. Removing and refitting is easy. The company has integrated everything into the charging bar, making it easy to carry.

How to Use

It's important to understand each component of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless separately before you can use it.

First, let's talk about the receiver. It pops out of the charging bar with just a press of a button. The display makes it easy to use. The display shows the connectivity of both microphones. If the microphone and receiver are too far apart, the signal will diminish. Additionally, the display shows battery percentage and sound connectivity. It has three modes—mono, stereo, and safety—that you can use during recording. The receiver can be connected to smartphones, laptops, desktops, and cameras.

The next important component is the microphone. The Sennheiser Profile Wireless has two microphones. Both microphones can be connected to the receiver simultaneously or separately. Importantly, the microphones can record without being connected to a receiver, as audio files are saved in them. If connectivity between the microphone and receiver is lost during shooting, the microphones record independently, preventing audio interruption.

Both microphones have three lights. One indicates battery status, the second indicates connectivity, and the third light glows when recording is in progress. Both microphones are charged in the charging bar and can also be charged separately using a Type-C cable.

The other components on the charging bar are dedicated to different types of connectivity and perform their functions well. I particularly liked the included clip magnets. These attach to the microphones. They are used to conceal them during recording. Simply put, you can tuck the microphones inside your shirt and attach them to the clip magnets from the outside while shooting, leaving only the clip magnets visible in the video. Similarly, both microphones attach to the Lav microphone.

How is the audio quality

No matter how admirable the design or look of wireless microphones, what matters is their audio quality. After using them for the first 20 days, I have no hesitation in saying that the audio quality of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless will definitely be a hit with content creators. The recorded sound produces good bass. The sound doesn't sound thin or loud at all. There's no artificiality in the sound. Although we didn't find a noise cancellation option, it still captures minimal ambient noise, which can be cleaned up during editing.

We used it in a crowded area like Connaught Place in Delhi. The mic captured noise but focused on the voice. We used the Sennheiser Profile Wireless as a receiver and mic, a mic-only recording, and a gun mic. Its audio quality was satisfactory on every level.

Facts

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless is the first and only 2.4 GHz wireless system that comes with a gun mic.

It can be used for more than 15 hours with a single charging bar.

Its mics last for more than 7 hours without charging.

The mics can store up to 30 hours of recording.

The entire charging bar is charged in three hours.

It works without app connectivity.

The display of its receiver auto-rotates.

The receiver and microphone have a range of 245 meters, meaning they can stay connected over long distances. Latency is very low. Even when the signal is weak, audio is recorded and saved in the microphone.

Is this the best deal?

Sennheiser is a German audio equipment manufacturer and has expertise in the audio segment. The new Sennheiser Profile Wireless is primarily aimed at content creators who create content daily and produce on a large scale. The price of Rs 29,900 may seem high to small content creators, but believe me, this is a one-time investment. You won't have to look for other microphones for creating any kind of video (daily vlogs, podcasts, interviews, YouTube videos). However, understand the technical aspects thoroughly before buying them. For that, you can watch the unboxing of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless on Gadgets360 Hindi's YouTube channel.
