Samsung's triple-fold smartphone may have three batteries, a patent suggests.

An alleged patent and drawings for a tri-fold smartphone from Samsung have appeared on the website of the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS).

Highlights

This smartphone could be called Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold.

Snapdragon 8 Elite can be used as the processor in it.

Last year, China's Huawei launched the first triple fold smartphone.

South Korean electronics maker Samsung's triple-fold smartphone could launch this year. A recently filed patent for the smartphone reveals its design. However, Samsung hasn't confirmed the smartphone's name. It's likely to be called the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold.

An alleged patent and drawings for a Samsung tri-fold smartphone have appeared on the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) website. However, the smartphone's internal design is quite different. The diagram reveals that it will have three batteries, one per panel, connected by ribbon cables. The size of each battery increases from the first to the third, which could give this tri-fold smartphone a larger battery capacity than Samsung's current Galaxy foldable smartphones.

The panel housing the camera on this smartphone has the smallest battery as the camera module occupies a major portion of this section. The third panel appears to have the largest battery. However, the actual capacity of these batteries is not known in this patent. It may have a battery with a higher capacity than the 4,400 mAh of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. This smartphone may be introduced at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held from October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju, South Korea. Last year, China's Huawei launched the first triple fold smartphone. Some other smartphone companies may also launch their models in this segment.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be initially available in South Korea and China. The smartphone is expected to feature a 9.96-inch display when fully unfolded and a 6.54-inch display when folded. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It is expected to feature a triple camera setup with a 200-megapixel primary camera. Sales of foldable smartphones have grown rapidly in the past few years, with Samsung holding the largest share in this segment.
