Lava Blaze Curve 5G' First Impression: About 10 years ago, when Chinese companies didn't dominate the Indian smartphone market, Lava, Karbonn, and Micromax reigned supreme. Times have changed, and the rise of brands like Xiaomi and Vivo has pushed Indian brands out of the competition. However, Lava has now reasserted itself. This time, the challenge remains Chinese companies, and there's pressure to offer similar or better technology at a lower price, a pressure Lava is constantly handling. The "new beginning" that began with the Lava Agni 5G has now reached the launch of the Lava Blaze Curve 5G. This smartphone attempts to incorporate every feature people want in the under-20,000 ₹ category. The Lava Blaze Curve 5G starts at ₹17,999. The company sent us the Iron Glass color variant for review. Let's find out how the new Lava phone with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage felt during initial use. Let's find out in the first impression.
The Lava Blaze Curve 5G doesn't rely on any one feature. It's as solid as it is beautiful. The company has put all its efforts into the phone's design. Its back uses a tough glass panel with a matte finish, which is also reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The company claims that this phone can resist breaking if dropped.
The Lava 5G branding is at the bottom of the back. There are three circular camera bumps at the top, housing the rear cameras. A separate LED flashlight is provided. The Iron Glass color variant offers a premium feel and mirrors the Vivo X50 Pro, which was launched about two and a half years ago in the 50,000 rupees price range. Even after using the Lava Blaze Curve 5G for 4 to 5 days without a TPU case, no fingerprints appeared on the back.
The power button and volume rocker are located on the right side of the phone. The left side is empty. The bottom houses the Type-C port, SIM tray, and microphone. There are two stereo speakers at the top and bottom, which deliver loud and crisp sound and come with Dolby Atmos support. The Blaze Curve 5G lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. However, a USB Type-C connector is provided to compensate for this shortcoming. The box also includes a 33-watt charger, C-type data cable, SIM ejector tool, and a TPU cover.
The Lava Blaze Curve 5G features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ punch-hole display. This curved AMOLED display eliminates the display chin and creates a prominent screen from the front. The 1080x2400 pixel resolution display has a 120Hz refresh rate, which provides a smooth screen display.
The peak brightness of 800 nits was average for me. Colors were sharp indoors, and I didn't experience any visual issues. I didn't experience any issues reading e-paper or watching YouTube videos. The display's brightness did fade slightly in bright sunlight. However, it supports Widevine L1 certification, which enhances the viewing experience for content on Netflix and other platforms.
The Lava Blaze Curve 5G features MediaTek's Dimensity 7050 processor. This processor has previously appeared in several smartphones from Realme, Oppo, and Lava and has demonstrated its performance. The Blaze Curve 5G has 8GB of RAM, which is expandable by up to 8GB. The review unit we received had 128GB of internal storage. The phone's performance impressed me in initial use. It handled social media browsing, content streaming, and a short period of gaming well. However, it's too early to comment further. I'll discuss performance in detail in the full review.
The Lava Blaze Curve 5G features a triple rear camera setup. The main camera is a 64MP Sony sensor. It also has an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The main rear camera supports 20x optical zoom. A 32MP front selfie camera is provided. Initial photos taken with the Blaze Curve 5G seemed average to us. Some selfies were decent. The camera app offers various modes, including Beauty, Portrait, and Macro. To learn about camera performance in each mode, you'll have to wait for our review. The phone can record video at up to 4K 30fps, but its capabilities remain to be tested.
The Lava Blaze Curve 5G has a 5000mAh battery. A 33W charger is included in the box.
Lava claims that the battery can be fully charged in 80 minutes and 50% in 30 minutes. With average use, the battery lasted a day, but its actual performance and charging time will be known after the review.
A few things that impressed me in my first impression were the in-display fingerprint sensor. It unlocks the device quickly. Secondly, the phone runs on Android 13. There's no additional UI layer, which provides a pure Android experience without the hassle of unnecessary apps or bloatware.
In the coming days, we'll put the Lava Blaze Curve 5G through all the necessary Gadgets 360 tests. Stay tuned for the full review.
