itel P55+ First Impression: The under-10,000-rupee category holds the most potential in India's smartphone market. Nowadays, every user wants a smartphone that not only looks trendy but also offers powerful features. Transsion Holdings' brand itel has captured this very pulse of the people. Itel has been claiming to offer affordable yet durable smartphones for many years. Now, the brand has expanded its reach and launched smartphones priced at 10,000 and above. The latest in this series is the itel P55+ smartphone. Priced at ₹9,499, it is packed with features like 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 5000mAh battery, and a 50MP camera. To understand what else is special about this device, we explored the Royal Green color variant of the itel P55+. How does this smartphone look at first glance? Let's know from the first impression.
The itel P55+ has been designed around three key elements: design, specifications, and the target consumer and their needs. The only thing missing is that it's not a 5G smartphone. This shortcoming could have been forgiven if the phone were priced under ₹8,000, but at ₹9,499, we'd expect a 5G smartphone from a brand like itel.
The itel P55+ comes in a red box, which includes a 45W charger adapter, a Type-A to Type-C cable, a transparent TPU case, and a SIM ejector pin. At first glance, it's hard to believe it's a phone under ₹10,000. There's no itel branding on the back, but the "Power" inscription is surprising. Before the launch, we gave the device to a few people and asked them to guess the price based on the phone's design. Everyone said it was worth over ₹10,000.
The itel P55+'s design is enhanced by its back, which features a vegan leather finish. The Royal Green color variant's finish doesn't look cheap at all. It offers two color tones. The bottom is slightly darker and features dotted lines. The power branding is also there and matches the color. The top is colored with a light to highlight the camera bump.
The itel P55+ has two circular camera bumps, and the LED flash is placed next to them. The power button and volume rocker are located on the right side of the phone. The SIM tray is located on the left side. We didn't find any ports on the top. The bottom features a 3.5mm headphone jack, Type-C port, and a single speaker grille.
I checked out the itel P55+'s vegan leather finish. Most importantly, it's fingerprint-resistant. Even scratching with a fingernail didn't damage it. However, prolonged use without a TPU case can cause it to become dirty. The phone's display has a punch-hole in the center. The display chin is well-defined at the top, but a bit thick at the bottom. The phone is lightweight, and I was able to use it with one hand without any issues.
The itel P55+ features a 6.56-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720x1612 pixels. It offers a 90Hz refresh rate, which should provide a smooth experience for users. Despite the HD+ resolution, the display impressed, with sharp colors. Visually, we didn't experience any issues. I was able to read e-paper comfortably. The color-contrast balance was also good in YouTube videos. However, there was some problem in bright sunlight.
The itel P55+ has a dynamic island, which the brand calls Dynamic Bar. This appears around the front camera, on which notifications like charging and face unlock status are visible. This feature is a big feature of this phone and may be liked by many people, because even expensive Android devices do not have the Dynamic Island feature.
The itel P55+ is powered by a Unisoc T606 octa-core processor with iBoost and 8GB of RAM. The Virtual RAM feature allows for expansion up to 8GB. Unisoc processors are used in many itel phones. The itel A70, launched in January, featured the UniSoC T603. In
terms of performance, the itel P55+ performed well during initial use. However, the phone's strengths can't be judged so quickly. The 256GB storage option may be appealing at this price.
The phone features a 50-megapixel dual AI camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The camera app features modes like Beauty, Portrait, and Super Night. There's also a dedicated mode for short videos. The phone's camera doesn't take 50MP photos by default. For high-resolution images, one needs to switch to Ultra mode. 1080P videos can be recorded at 30fps from the back camera.
The itel P55+ is powered by a 5000mAh battery. A 45W charger is provided in the box for charging it. The brand claims that the phone's battery can be charged up to 25% in 10 minutes and from zero to 100% in 72 minutes. During initial usage, we found the battery to be powerful, but time is needed to assess its actual performance.
The itel P55+ may appeal to those who want a budget device that sets trends and also needs features.
