What is THAAD?
The THAAD missile defense system is designed to defend against short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, and is the only US system capable of detecting threats from both inside and outside our atmosphere, NDTV reported.

The THAAD missile defense system's strength is its ability to protect against ballistic missile attacks. The United States has always stood by Israel and has now deployed THAAD in Israel.
How does the THAAD system work?
As we mentioned, THAAD can intercept ballistic missiles. It can destroy enemy missiles both inside and outside the atmosphere. This missile system does not have explosive warheads. It destroys enemy missiles using kinetic energy. Simply put, to destroy enemy missiles, it attacks them using force rather than explosives.
The THAAD missile defense system has four major elements:
Interceptor: It destroys enemy missiles using kinetic energy.
Launch Vehicle: It is a mobile truck that carries the interceptor. It is from this vehicle that the interceptor is launched.
Radar: It tracks threats from a distance of 870 to 3,000 kilometers.
Fire Control System: It monitors the coordination between the interceptor and enemy missiles.
A standard THAAD battery consists of six truck-mounted launchers, each equipped with eight interceptors, as well as radar and radio equipment.
