In recent years, the content creation market has grown rapidly worldwide. In a country like India, cheap mobile data, entry of 5G and the growing trend of smartphones have opened up new possibilities for audio-video content creators. According to a statistic, there are about 25 to 35 lakh content creators in the country, including influencers and YouTubers. Many tools are needed to create any content (audio-video). One important tool among them is the microphone. Nowadays every content creator is using a good wireless mic, so that the listeners do not have to worry about audio. Brands like Sennheiser, Rode, DJI, Hollyland are popular in this category. Recently, Sennheiser has launched its new wireless microphone - Sennheiser Profile Wireless. Me and my team have been using it for a few weeks. How is this microphone? How useful is it for content creators? Let's find out in the first impression.
Sennheiser Profile Wireless Price in India
Sennheiser Profile Wireless has been launched for Rs 29,900 . It will be available from the first quarter of this year.
Packaging
Content creators have to carry a lot of equipment, so packaging is very important for each of their tools. In the case of microphones, packaging is important because if a connector is lost, it can cause problems while shooting. Here, Sennheiser has to be praised for not leaving any weak point in the packaging of the Profile Wireless microphone. You can carry it with one hand while holding the pouch. As soon as you open the pouch, you get an all-in-one setup. In simple words, there is an ultra portable charging bar inside the pouch, in which all the components of the microphone are fitted. The charging bar can also be used as a handheld (gun) mic. I liked the packaging of Sennheiser Profile Wireless. Its style is decent. Everything is inside a charging bar, which reduces the chances of losing any tool, provided you are not careless. What do you get in the box?
Sennheiser Profile Wireless is a 2 channel all-in-one microphone system. All its components are in the charging bar. It has a receiver, 2 mics, windscreen to attach to both mics, foam windscreen to attach to the top of the charging bar, 2 clip-on mics, 2 clip magnets, Lightning adapter, USB-C adapter, cold shoe adapter, 3.5mm TRS coiled cable without lock, USB C to USB-C cable.
Design
The design of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless is one of its main features. The charging bar, which comes in a matte finish, is lightweight despite being packed with a lot of components. Its size is as big as your palm. The charging bar has three buttons and a compartment inside which all the components are found. It is easy to remove and fit them back. The company has provided all the things in the charging bar, which makes it easy to carry it anywhere.
how to use
It is important to understand each component of Sennheiser Profile Wireless separately, only then you will be able to use it.
First of all, let's talk about the receiver. It comes out of the charging bar by pressing just one button. The display present in it will make it easy for you to use it. The connectivity of both the mics is displayed in the display. If the mic and receiver are too far from each other, the display signal starts to decrease. Apart from this, the display shows the battery percentage and sound connectivity. It has three modes - mono, stereo and safety, which you will be able to use during recording. The receiver can be connected to smartphones, laptops, desktops and cameras.
The next important component is the mic. Sennheiser Profile Wireless has two mics. Both mics can be connected to the receiver simultaneously and separately. The special thing is that recording can be done with the mics even without connecting to the receiver, because the audio files are saved in them. If the connectivity between the mic and the receiver breaks during shooting, the mics record separately, so that the audio is not interrupted. Three lights glow in both the mics. One is an indication of their battery, the second is for connectivity and the third light glows when recording is on. Both the mics keep getting charged in the charging bar and can also be charged separately with a Type-C cable.
The rest of the components present in the charging bar are for different types of connectivity and do their job well. I especially liked the clip magnets that come with them. These stick to the mic. These are used to hide the mic during recording. In simple words, during shooting, you can put the mic inside the shirt and attach it from outside with the clip magnet. This makes only the clip magnet visible in the video. Similarly, both the mics also get attached to the Lav mic.
How is the audio quality
No matter how praiseworthy the design or look of wireless microphones is, what matters is their audio quality. After using it for the first 20 days, I have no hesitation in saying that the audio quality of Sennheiser Profile Wireless will definitely be liked by content creators. It generates good bass in the recorded sound. The sound does not sound thin or loud at all. There is no artificiality in the sound. Although we did not find the option of noise cancellation in it. Still, it captures the surrounding noise minimally, which can be cleaned during editing.
We used it in a crowded area of Connaught Place in Delhi. The mic did capture some noise but focused on the voice. We used the Sennheiser Profile Wireless as receiver+mic, mic only and gun mic. The audio quality satisfied us at every level.
Facts
Sennheiser Profile Wireless is the first and only 2.4 GHz wireless system that comes with a gun mic.
It can be used for more than 15 hours with one charging bar.
Its mic lasts for more than 7 hours without any charging bar.
The mics can store up to 30 hours of recording.
The entire charging bar is charged in three hours.
It works without app connectivity.
The display of its receiver auto-rotates.
There is a range of 245 meters between the receiver and the mic, which means both can stay connected to each other from a long distance. Its latency is very low. When the signal is weak, the audio gets recorded and saved in the mic.
Is this the best deal?
Sennheiser is a German audio equipment manufacturer and has expertise in the audio segment. The new Sennheiser Profile Wireless is primarily for content creators who create content daily and do production on a large scale. Small content creators may find the price of Rs 29900 high, but believe me, this will be a one-time investment. You will not have to look at other microphones to make any kind of video (daily vlogs, podcasts, interviews, YouTube videos). However, understand the technical things well before buying them.
