The Indian Air Force has grown rapidly in strength over the past few years. The central government has signed several major deals to equip the country's air force with state-of-the-art fighter aircraft. In this regard, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has been awarded a contract to supply 12 Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft and related equipment. This contract is worth approximately ₹13,500 crore.

These fighter aircraft will feature over 62 percent indigenous components. The Defense Ministry signed this contract with HAL . A statement issued by the Defense Ministry stated that the proportion of indigenous parts in these aircraft has been increased because many components will be manufactured by the country's defense industry. The statement said, "The supply of these fighter aircraft will enhance the Air Force's operational capability and strengthen the country's defense preparedness." This order with HAL includes taxes and duties.
