Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex in Vadodara, Gujarat, to manufacture the C-295 aircraft. This is the private sector's final assembly line for military aircraft in India. Under the deal, a total of 56 military tactical transport aircraft will be manufactured at the Vadodara facility, of which 16 will be delivered directly by Airbus. The manufacturing of the C-295 aircraft will give India expertise in transport aircraft manufacturing. Let's explore its features.
What is C-295 Aircraft
The C-295 has a carrying capacity of 5 to 10 tons. It will replace the Indian Air Force's Avro-748 aircraft. According to an NDTV report , the C-295 is considered a superior aircraft. It can transport 71 soldiers or 50 paratroopers, along with supplies, to areas where heavier aircraft cannot reach.
It can fly at a speed of 260 knots and can take off from small airstrips. It can land on rough, soft, sandy, or grassy airstrips.
The C-295 can fly continuously for 11 hours and can withstand all weather conditions. It can perform missions day and night, from deserts to coastal areas. It can also be used as an ICU to transport the injured.
It also has air-to-air refueling capabilities. It has ramp doors, with the help of which
soldiers and cargo present in the aircraft can be dropped. According to the report, all 56 aircraft will also be fitted with indigenous electronic warfare suites made by Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited.
The C-295 can fly up to an altitude of 30 thousand feet. This aircraft has been used in Chad, Iraq and Afghanistan. It keeps flying in the hot and mild forests of Brazil. It has also been used in the mountains of Colombia. The C-295 has also made successful flights in the cold areas of Poland, Finland and Kazakhstan.
