On April 11, Turkey will launch its tenth satellite, which is the first satellite dedicated to monitoring the Earth's surface.
This was announced Sunday, April 9, by the President of the Turkish Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and said: "Our locally manufactured IMECE satellite, which is capable of imaging the Earth with great accuracy, will be launched into orbit on April 11, and we are still on the path of the global space race, thanks to our human resources, capabilities and technologies."
The Turkish satellite group will thus include 10 satellites.
It is noteworthy that the IMECE satellite will be dedicated to monitoring the Earth's surface. It was designed at the Tubitak-Uzay Institute of Space Technologies and Scientific Research. It will be launched to an altitude of 680 km to a sun-synchronous orbit.
It will be able to transmit photographs with a resolution of at least one metre. Among the tasks of the new satellite is collecting information on the defense and agricultural sectors, combating natural disasters, and monitoring climate processes.
The satellite will be ready for operation 48 hours after it reaches orbit.
The first Turkish citizen to travel to the International Space Station
The head of the Turkish Space Agency, Serdar Huseyin Yildirim, announced the travel of the first Turkish citizen to the International Space Station ISS to conduct some scientific research in November this year.
This came in Yildirim's statements during an interview with the Russian agency "Tass", today, Monday, on the eve of the celebration of Cosmonautics Day, where the head of the Turkish Space Agency continued: "On the centenary of the founding of our republic, a Turkish citizen will go into space for the first time, and the launch is scheduled to be Next November, he will head to the International Space Station to conduct scientific research.
