A similar proportion of young people also used substances to help them deal with mental health problems or emotional distress.  The Mix also reported that 8% of young people used antidepressants over the counter, which equates to more than 634,000 young adults aged 16 to 25 across the UK.  Other young people also adjust the doses of "antidepressants" prescribed by their doctor, and some show signs of addiction.
