Murder plan shared through ChatGPT, was about to rape his girlfriend and kill her, FBI reached the house!
Many ways to use ChatGPT are shared on social media. People use it for everything from trivial information to various ideas. However, when a 25-year-old man shared a plan to rape and murder his girlfriend on ChatGPT, the outcome was quite different.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of people's lives today. People are using AI tools like ChatGPT for education, jobs, research, content creation, and solving everyday problems, both large and small. However, a case from the United States raises serious questions about the use and security of AI. Here, a 25-year-old man allegedly shared details of his plan to rape and murder his former girlfriend on ChatGPT. The matter became so serious that information reached law enforcement agencies, and the FBI took action against the accused. The man named in the case has been identified as Darren Zhou. According to reports, he posted messages on ChatGPT intended to harm his ex-girlfriend. He allegedly threatened to rape and then murder her. Furthermore, his messages also allegedly contained extremely serious threats.
Shared a dangerous plan
It was reported that Zhou wrote to ChatGPT, “I'm gonna kill her by the end of this month. If I can't have her, then nobody can.” Meaning, he was talking about killing her by the end of the month and saying that if she can't be his, then she won't be anyone else's either. Such a message was not considered to be merely a word said in anger. According to reports, the content of the conversation indicated potential violence and after this, OpenAI informed the FBI about the matter. After this, the law enforcement agencies took the matter seriously.
Why did the conversation with ChatGPT cause a stir?
People generally view conversations with AI chatbots as private. However, when a person shares a plan or threat to seriously harm another human with an AI system, it raises the question of a tech company's responsibility. This case brought this question to the forefront. According to reports, Zhou's alleged messages were not merely about expressing his displeasure, but also indicated an intent to harm a specific individual. He even mentioned a deadline for murder. This was cited as the reason why the matter was considered a security concern, and the information was passed to law enforcement. This led to an FBI investigation.
According to the FBI's action
report, Darren Zhou was arrested in May. The action against him also affected his job. He reportedly worked at Goldman Sachs and was fired after the case came to light.
