Has there not reached you the news of those before you - the people of Noah and 'Aad and Thamud and those after them? No one knows them but Allah . Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.
Islam says that the Aad (Aad) people belonged to the ancient Arabic kingdoms mentioned in the Holy Quran for having abundant power and wealth and building a thriving and advanced civilization during the days of Nuh (Prophet Noah). Allah sent the Holy Aad Prophet Hud (AS) to guide the Aad people and advise them to follow the command to worship Allah and desist from the virtues of oppression and pride. The Aad people disrespected the message and ignored the advent of the Holy Prophet by preferring the paths of pride and disbelief and openly defying the warnings from Allah. It did not take long for Allah to punish the Aad people for ignoring the message from Allah by reducing them to a mere mess by sending a strong and unending windstorm that wiped away the entire kingdom left behind by the Aad civilization. The Aad people offer one of the most valuable teachings in the worldwide.
Islamic history says that the Aad people inhabited a territory called Al-Ahqāf that the Quran describes as a land of sand dunes and deserts. Many historians believe that the territory of Al-Ahqāf was a real place that generally lay in the Southern Arabia Peninsula near the modern-day Yemen, Oman countries, as well as parts of the Rub’ al Khali desert. This is a very large territory that is well known for its ancient structures that are now in ruin, sandy grounds that are always shifting, and the lost civilizations. Islamic history relates that the Aad people possessed a great deal of power; they constructed magnificent architectural works and had robust communities. However, their overconfidence and refusal to recognize the Prophet Hud A.S. led to their destruction in a violent storm. Although the archaeological site of the Aad people is yet to be located definitively, it could well have been that their real home lay in Southern Arabia, specifically the Rub’ al Khali.
