YouTube says it will offer an ad-free experience on “most videos”
The subscription is priced at just Rs 89 per month.
Does not include background play or premium features like YouTube Music
The ad-free YouTube experience is about to get a little more affordable in India. Until now, the only option to completely get rid of ads was the expensive YouTube Premium subscription. But now Google's video streaming service has launched the YouTube Premium Lite subscription in India. The company claims that this new subscription is aimed at users who simply want to watch videos without ads and don't need premium features like background play or YouTube Music.
The new YouTube Premium Lite subscription in India is priced at just Rs 89 per month, which is equivalent to the YouTube Premium Student Plan. The company said in its blog post that the YouTube Premium Lite subscription will provide users with an ad-free experience on "most videos". These include content from gaming, fashion, beauty, news and many other categories. However, YouTube did not clarify which videos will not show ads and which may show ads on "most videos".
The plan's biggest highlight is that it works on all devices, whether smartphones, laptops, or smart TVs. However, it's worth noting that Premium Lite won't offer ad-free access to YouTube Music. Additionally, ads will likely appear during music content, Shorts, and search/browsing.
It's worth noting that YouTube Premium also offers background playback and offline download options, which won't be included in this more affordable plan. This is simply intended to make video playback ad-free.
In terms of pricing, the annual YouTube Premium plan currently costs ₹1,490 in India. The individual plan is available for ₹149 per month, the family plan for ₹299 per month, and the Duo plan for ₹219 per month. In comparison, the new ₹89 Premium Lite plan could be a more budget-friendly option for users who only want ad-free video.
