WhatsApp is working on a Status reshare control feature

Users will be able to decide who can reshare their status.

The feature is currently available only for beta testers.

WhatsApp is constantly working to provide new privacy and control features for its users. Now, information has emerged that the company is testing a feature that will allow users to decide whether their status updates can be reshared. This feature will be disabled by default and will only work if manually enabled. Additionally, users will have the option to choose which people they want to allow to view and reshare their statuses.

Feature tracker WABetaInfo spotted this feature in WhatsApp beta v2.25.27.5 for Android , which is said to be a compatible update. The report states that the Meta-owned messaging app is preparing to roll it out in an upcoming version.

The screenshot shared shows that a new Allow Sharing option has now been added to the beta version of WhatsApp. This option will appear alongside the Status update viewing settings. By turning it on, people who see your Status will also be able to reshare it to their own Status feed.

However, WhatsApp has also introduced some privacy controls. Users can share their status only with select contacts or exclude certain people. In this case, only those who were originally allowed to view the status will be able to reshare it.

The report also states that when a status is reshared, a label will appear above it to easily distinguish between the original and reshared content. Additionally, the user who originally posted the post will receive a notification when the reshare occurs. However, the reshare's contact details will not be shown to other users.

The tracker also clarified that this feature is currently in development and is only available to testers registered in the Google Play beta program. It may be rolled out to more people for testing in the coming weeks.
