According to a report by market research firm Omdia , new launches and discounts from retailers are the main reasons behind the growth in the smartphone market. Vivo (excluding iQOO) shipped around 9.7 million units in the third quarter. South Korean smartphone maker Samsung ranked second with shipments of around 6.8 million units. Samsung's market share is around 14 percent. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi ranked third in the last quarter. American device maker Apple has once again ranked among the top five smartphone companies in the third quarter. Apple, the maker of the globally popular iPhone, achieved nearly 10 percent market share with shipments of approximately 4.9 million units. The iPhone 16s accounted for a significant portion of the company's sales. Last month, Apple launched the iPhone 17 series. The new smartphone series includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air. The company is experiencing strong demand for this series. However, sales of the new model, the iPhone Air, introduced this year, are low. Due to this, the company has decided to reduce the manufacturing of this smartphone. Apple recently launched the MacBook Pro with the new M5 chip in India. The company has stated that this laptop has 3.5 times more artificial intelligence (AI) features and 1.6 times better graphics performance compared to the MacBook Pro with the M4 chip.
The report states that Vivo's T series, V60, and Y series performed strongly in the third quarter. Samsung benefited from increased sales in the mid-premium segment, with its Galaxy S24 contributing significantly to sales. For Oppo, the F31 series helped boost sales.
