Ghost of Yotei has already made a big splash for Sony within a week of its release. The game, which is currently exclusive to the PlayStation 5, has reportedly sold over 1.6 million units. According to a market research firm, Ghost of Yotei has become one of Sony's strongest PS5 launches ever, behind Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
According to Alinea Analytics , including copies shipped to retailers, the game's total sales have surpassed 2 million units, and all this happened in just one week. The data shows that the game recovered its $60 million (approximately ₹532 crore) development cost in just one day. The game is priced at $70, meaning it has earned nearly $100 million (approximately ₹886 crore) so far.
Although Ghost of Yotei 's initial sales are slightly slower than its prequel , Ghost of Tsushima, which sold 2.4 million units in just three days of launch, Yotei has still given Sony a strong start.
Not only that, but the report also revealed that Ghost of Yotei is selling nearly 1.5 times faster than Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows . Furthermore, 77% of total sales so far have been digital copies.
Interestingly, 93% of players who play Yotei have already played Ghost of Tsushima, which shows that Sucker Punch has a strong fanbase and gamers have tremendous trust in the studio. Ghost of Yotei has received positive reviews since its launch.
Gadgets 360 gave the game an 8/10 score, praising its visuals, combat, and open-world design. However, the story feels a bit "safe and predictable." The game is currently available exclusively on PS5, and sales are expected to increase in the coming weeks.
