Before the onset of winter, the AQI (Air Quality Index) in these cities reaches "hazardous" levels. In recent years, people have started purchasing air purifiers to combat air pollution. These improve air quality in homes and offices. Sharp, a well-known Japanese electronics company, is also introducing its advanced air purifiers in the Indian market. Recently, it launched several products, including the Sharp Air Purifier FP-S40M-T. I've been using it for 20 days. What are its key features and what was my initial experience? Let's find out in my first impressions.

Design
The Sharp Air Purifier's design is appealing at first sight. When I unboxed it with our video editor, both had similar reactions. We loved its compact size. With its rectangular design, this air purifier can be placed anywhere in your home (like your bedroom).
Most of its body is charcoal brown. The top has a lighter finish, which houses its button functions, such as the power button, hedge mode, etc., which are illuminated by LED indicators. These buttons control the air purifier. Its air flow is also located on the top. I found the Sharp Air Purifier FP-S40M-T to have a sturdy build quality. Weighing approximately 3.9 kg, this purifier can be easily transported from one room to another. The box includes the air purifier, a power adapter, and a user manual.
Installation
People often ask how to install or use a new air purifier. Using this Sharp air purifier is easy. After opening the box, you'll need to remove the covers on the right and left sides. The covers come off easily with a gentle press from the bottom.
After removing them, you'll find a mesh on each side. After removing them, remove the plastic cover from the HEPA filters inside and reinstall the HEPA filters. The air purifier then starts up using the power adapter.
Features
The main function of an air purifier is to keep the air around you clean. It removes all the pollutants from the air that are not good for your breathing. The Sharp Air Purifier FP-S40M-T can do this. It uses Plasmacluster technology, which the company has even branded on its product. Plasmaclusters are ions that are similar to the positive and negative ions found in nature.
This technology claims to remove odors, allergens, viruses, bacteria, and smog from the air.
Before I discuss the features, it's important to note that this model of Sharp air purifier covers 330 square feet. This means it's not suitable for large halls. It might be better suited for your bedroom. You could also install it in your office cabin or any small area that's often crowded.
It features a two-in-one filter: a HEPA filter and an odor-removing filter. The company hasn't specified which one is the HEPA filter. It claims these filters capture 0.1 ultra-micron particles in the air, and also remove dust particles like PM2.5 and PM10, which are significantly prevalent in Delhi's pollution. If you have a pet in the house, they can also capture its dander.
Despite all this, it does not have a digital display which would tell you how much it has cleaned the air around you. The first question everyone asked in the office was whether it is not showing real time AQI? No! It cleans the air but does not show real time AQI. There is only one indicator which indicates whether the air is clean or not, I will tell you about it later.
Sharp Air Purifier has Coanda Air Flow. With this the air gets circulated in the entire room at 20 degrees and keeps getting cleaned. This air flow works well when you place the purifier near the wall.
Functions
The Sharp Air Purifier FP-S40M-T's functions are simple. Everything is organized by the buttons on the top. It took a little time to understand the functions, but once you get used to them, using the purifier is easy. There
are four buttons in total. The first is the power button, which turns on and off. The second button is associated with all the modes available, such as Auto Mode, Pollen, Sleep, and three fan modes. The third button is associated with Haze. When turned on, the purifier operates at high speed for a certain period of time and then returns to normal speed. The fourth button can be used to set a timer, allowing the purifier to run for 2, 4, or 8 hours. Additionally, there's an indicator that displays a blue light when the air is clean. If the air is polluted, it turns orange.
After using it for about 20 days, my experience with the Sharp Air Purifier FP-S40M-T is mixed. I liked the purifier's build quality, functionality, and compact design. Its air throw is good. It's not too noisy. However, the digital display is lacking. At this price, I was expecting Wi-Fi support, which it lacks. You'll have to reach out every time you need to change functions. If it had app support, it would be in your pocket! This Sharp model could be a choice for those who want an air purifier with simple, manual functionality.
