AI-related jobs increased by 11.7 percent in September. Outside of India, only Singapore has a higher percentage of demand for AI-related jobs.

New Delhi:

Jobs with AI Skills: Amid the ever-growing demand for jobs involving artificial intelligence (AI) skills in the country, there was an 11.7 percent increase in AI-related jobs in the month of September, as compared to 8.2 percent in the same period a year ago. Global online recruitment platform 'Indeed' gave this information in a report released on Wednesday. According to the report, three months ago, there was a 10.6 percent increase in jobs involving AI skills.

"India ranks highly in terms of such jobs compared to other markets. Outside of India, only Singapore has a higher percentage of demand for AI-related jobs. It's clear that many employers in India are focusing heavily on AI," said Callum Pickering, senior economist for the Asia-Pacific region at Indeed. The report is based on recruitment details posted on Indeed's platform.

Having AI skills will now be even more important

The report states that AI-related jobs are primarily concentrated in the technology sector, but are gradually expanding to other sectors. Approximately 39 percent of job applications in data and analytics, 23 percent in software development, 18 percent in insurance, and 17 percent in scientific research mention AI.

Demand for AI skills is seen across all engineering fields, with industrial engineering (17 percent), mechanical engineering (11 percent), and electrical engineering (9.2 percent) leading the way.

According to the report, total recruitment advertisements declined by 0.8 percent in September, marking the sixth consecutive month of declining hiring. However, the report notes that the organized sector in India remains strong and there are ample job openings. Indeed noted that the growing influence of AI is driving employers to seek specialized and highly skilled workers who are proficient in AI skills such as data analytics and automation. However, the number of such skilled workers is currently low.
