There is big news for users of Meta's AI platform. The company will use user interactions and activities with its generative AI tools to personalize content and advertising on apps like Facebook and Instagram. Meta Platforms is going to take this step from December 16. Meta said that users will be informed about the changes from October 7. However, users will not have the option to opt-out, but this update applies only to those using Meta AI. Let us know in detail about this step of Meta.
Meta said that users' interactions with its AI tools will be added to existing data, including voice conversations, text chats, likes and follows, and used to create better suggestions for content and ads, including Facebook and Instagram Reels and advertising. For example, if a user talks to Meta AI about swimming, they could later be shown ads for swimming groups, friends' swimming updates, or swimming gadgets like goggles, shorts, caps, etc.
"People's conversations will be just another piece of input that will help make feeds and advertising more personalized," said Christy Harris, Meta's privacy policy manager. "We're still in the process of building our first-of-its-kind offerings that will use this data."
However, it's worth noting that when users interact with Meta AI about highly sensitive issues like their religious views, sexual views, political views, health, caste or race, it won't be used to show them any ads. The company will roll out this in most regions from December 16 and will expand over time. However, the UK, EU and South Korea will not be covered. Meta AI now has over 1 billion monthly active users.
