Tata Communications has announced the successful deployment of digital infrastructure solutions for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). This will enable BSNL to offer eSIM services to its mobile subscribers across the country. The company states that this eSIM service, powered by the Tata Communications MOVE platform, will simplify digital SIM provisioning, replacing traditional SIM cards, and provide greater convenience, flexibility, and security to users across the country.
BSNL's new eSIM service is supported by Tata Communications Collaboration Services Private Limited (TCCSPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Communications Limited. This platform is a GSMA-accredited eSIM subscription management system that allows users to activate the eSIM on their devices by scanning a QR code. The launch of this service will give BSNL customers the option to use 2G, 3G, and 4G services without a physical SIM card.
According to Tata Communications , the eSIM service will particularly benefit users with dual-SIM devices. Such users will be able to use the eSIM along with the physical SIM and connect securely to a local operator while traveling abroad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also launched BSNL's 4G network on Saturday, September 27th . BSNL has installed over 97,000 telecom towers for this purpose. With this, India joins the select group of countries that have developed their own telecom technology.
These towers will provide connectivity to over 26,000 remote and border villages across the country. The new telecom towers use solar power. Major private telecom companies like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have 5G networks in almost every part of the country, and BSNL has found it difficult to compete with these companies. BSNL's 5G service will be called Q-5G, where the Q stands for Quantum. BSNL has also introduced anti-smishing and anti-spam protection to protect users from SMS messages containing fake links.
