Apple fans will have to wait longer for the foldable iPhone, know why there is so much delay?

The iPhone Fold's biggest challenge is its hinge, which is the centerpiece of the entire design. The hinge on a foldable phone needs to remain strong even after being opened and closed thousands of times, and Apple isn't willing to compromise on this aspect.

It has been postponed due to design and hinge issues.

Apple's first foldable iPhone, currently called the iPhone Fold, may now launch in 2027. It was previously believed the company would introduce it in 2026, but reports now suggest Apple is still addressing issues with its hinge and design. This means those hoping to see a foldable iPhone in 2026 may have to wait another year. However, experts believe the delay is to ensure the device meets Apple's premium standards.

South Korean website The Elec reports that Japanese investment firm Mizuho Securities has told its client that Apple has not yet finalized the iPhone Fold's design and hinge specifications. The company says that "mass production of the foldable phone by the third quarter of 2026 is not easy, as finalizing the hinge design and final specifications will take time." This means that even if Apple attempts to launch it in 2026, production could be limited to 5 to 7 million units.

The iPhone Fold 's biggest challenge is its hinge, which is the centerpiece of the entire design. The hinge in a foldable phone needs to remain strong even after being opened and closed thousands of times, and Apple isn't willing to compromise on this aspect. Brands like Samsung have been making foldable phones for years, but Apple wants to enter this market with extreme caution, ensuring its first foldable device is durable and reliable.

The report also states that the company hasn't finalized the remaining hardware specifications, which could further extend the production timeline. This means the delay isn't limited to the hinge, but rather the overall design and hardware integration.

According to the current information, the iPhone Fold will have a 5.38-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch inner display. This size is slightly smaller than previously leaked reports. When folded, it will appear to be the size of the iPhone mini (5.4 inches), while when unfolded, it will offer the largest iPhone display ever.
