How to Clean Fruits Properly: Many people clean fruits incorrectly, allowing dirt and bacteria to stick to them. A video shared by Dr. Sood on Instagram explains an effective way to clean fruits.
How to Clean Fruits Properly: How do you clean fruits? Often people don't clean fruits properly and store them in the refrigerator without washing them. This is an unhealthy habit. Fruits available in the market today may look fresh, but they may contain insects, pesticides, and bacteria. Especially in small fruits like cherries, a fly called Drosophila can lay eggs, which later turn into larvae and grow inside the fruit. A video shared by Dr. Sood on Instagram explains an effective way to clean fruits.
The right way to clean fruits like cherries:
Mix 1 tablespoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Salt has antibacterial properties which help in removing the worms.
Gently squeeze the cherries (do not break the skin). This may release any worms inside, but the fruit will not be spoiled.
Soak in a shallow vessel for 10–15 minutes to allow the salt and warm water to work effectively.
Rotate the fruit occasionally to keep it open so that water reaches all parts and cleaning is complete.
Keep an eye on the small larvae coming out of the fruits. If you see small insects in the water, then understand that the fruit was infected.
Home remedies for cleaning other fruits:
Baking soda and water: Washing fruit with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 liter of water removes pesticides.
Vinegar and water: Soak fruit in a mixture of 3 parts water and 1 part white vinegar for 10 minutes, then rinse with clean water.
Washing with running water: For larger fruits like apples, mangoes, and grapes, rinsing them under running water is the easiest method.
Using a brush: For fruits with hard skins, gently scrub with a clean brush.
What is your method?
