Ather Energy has given a big technology boost to the Z variant of its popular family e-scooter, the Ather Rizta. Now the feature of touchscreen display has been added to this model through an over-the-air (OTA) update and surprisingly, no hardware change was required for this. This means that old scooter owners, who had previously bought the Z variant, will also be able to take advantage of this new premium feature. This upgrade was announced by CEO Tarun Mehta at the Ather Community Day 2025 event. Along with this, Eco Mode, refreshed UI and new Terracotta Red color option were also announced.

The touchscreen feature has now been added to the Ather Rizta Z via an OTA update. This means that now users can control the features on their display via touch. For this, old users will only have to update the software version of their scooter.

If you are wondering why Ather did not do this till now and if it supported touchscreen then why did it not come with the touchscreen feature at launch, then let us tell you that initially Ather's Rizta Z was not going to come with a touchscreen display. However, the touch layer was present under the display panel. The company initially faced problems related to the supplier, due to which the company did not activate it.

Ather says that the company had planned to remove it completely in later units, but the supplier issue was resolved. After this, the company focused on its research, in which it was found that most customers are choosing AtherStack Pro because it offers advanced features. For this reason, Ather also activated the touchscreen in Rizta Z through OTA (over-the-air) update. Ather has added many more new features in the AtherStack 7 update. Natural voice commands have been included in the new update, so that now the rider will be able to control many functions of the scooter without hands-on operation. Be it checking status or changing settings, everything has now become easier with voice.

Additionally, users now also get proactive alerts that notify them in real-time of system issues or potential dangers while riding.

The most special feature of AtherStack 7 is Pothole Alerts. The onboard IMU system allows the scooter to detect potholes on the road and alerts via dashboard and voice prompts. Apart from this, Crash Alerts have also been included. In case of an accident, the scooter can immediately send live location to emergency contacts. Ather claims that this system can differentiate between minor and major crashes. Also, emergency contacts are shown on the dashboard so that people nearby can help.

Parking and theft are big problems in urban areas. Keeping this in mind, the company has given two new features, ParkSafe, which uses the National Tow Zone database to alert the rider if they are parking in a high-risk area. The second is LockSafe, which detects tampering and immediately sends an alert to the owner. Apart from this, the rider can remotely immobilize the scooter from the Ather mobile app.

Not only this, a feature called Infinite Cruise has also been added, which is a combination of cruise control, hill control and crawl control. The speed is set with a single button press. To increase the speed, you have to turn the throttle and to reduce it, you have to apply brake or negative throttle. In this, the new speed gets locked automatically. It can even be used at 10 km/h, which is a very useful feature especially in traffic. Infinite Cruise will be first available on the Ather 450 Apex and will be compatible with all Apex models made in 2025.
