The smartwatch market is growing rapidly and if you are looking for a device in the range below 10,000 that looks premium, offers essential smart features and also brings a good setup of health tracking, then Amazfit Active 2 comes out as an interesting option. I have used this watch for only two days, so this is not a review. But the experience I got in this short period was clear in many aspects, especially regarding the design, display and interface. It is too early to comment on the accuracy of health or fitness features, but its feature set can give an idea of the level of product the brand wants to offer. So without delay, let me tell you how much the Amazfit Active 2 impressed me at first glance.
Amazfit Active 2: Price, in-box contents and design
The Amazfit Active 2 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 9,999 for the standard version. Its premium variant with leather strap and sapphire glass has been introduced for Rs 11,999. I had the premium variant for review, which gets a leather strap and a red color silicone strap is also included inside the box. The standard version only comes with a black silicone strap. Both variants get a charging coil in the box, but the charging cable is not included, which can increase your cost a bit more. However, the good thing is that the coil comes with a Type-C charging port.
The first thing that catches attention as soon as you take Active 2 out of the box is its design. I did not expect such finishing at a price of Rs 10,000. The smartwatch body is made of stainless steel, which feels light in hand but not cheap. At first glance, it will remind you of the old-school classic models of Timex or Casio, which are still making their mark in today's modern generation. Circular dial made of metal, with two buttons on the side. These are used to control the smartwatch. Sensors are fitted at the back.
The strap impressed me less than the dial at first glance. The quality here could have been a little better. However, it did not bother me even after wearing it for a long time. However, I liked the quality of the silicone strap. During two days of use, I did not have any problem of allergy or sweat with both. Yes, the real test of the quality of the strap will be only after long-term use.
Its size was right for my wrist, but it will not fit every wrist. If you have thin wrists, you should try it before buying. However, the light weight makes it easy to wear. It is rated for water resistance up to 5 ATM, which means it can withstand water pressure up to a depth of 50 meters. However, I have to see how much damage its leather strap can take when carried in water.
Amazfit Active 2: Display
Its 1.32-inch AMOLED display looks very sharp. It includes 2.5D tempered glass + anti-fingerprint coating. The premium variant comes with sapphire glass. The peak brightness of the display panel is said to be up to 2,000 nits and to be honest, I did not face any problem while using it outdoors in the sun. Both text and icons look clear and colorful. The touch response in the screen has also been smooth so far, no lag or stutter was felt.
Amazfit Active 2: Software and Interface
The Amazfit Active 2 runs on Zepp OS and connects to the Zepp app. The interface is clean and user-friendly. Scrolling is smooth and there was no lag in navigation till writing the news. The process of changing the watchface is quite easy and there are many free options available in the app. There are also some paid watchfaces which are great in terms of animation and visuals.
An AI assistant named Zepp Flow is also provided in it which works on voice commands, but till now I have not used it actively, so it would not be right to give any personal opinion on its usage.
Amazfit Active 2: Features and Specs
Although I haven't yet tested the health tracking or fitness modes of the Amazfit Active 2 in depth, in two days of usage, it gave me accurate heart rate readings most of the time. It has 164 sport modes, basic and advanced features like sleep monitoring, stress measurement and SpO2 sensing.
Apart from this, some useful features like offline map support, inbuilt GPS and voice notes recording can put it a step ahead of other budget watches. An interesting feature is Zepp Coach, which claims to offer AI-based personal fitness guidance.
However, these are all technical details, I will have to spend more time testing their reliability and efficiency, especially things like heart rate tracking and sleep data do not seem to be reliable unless they are tested for weeks.
It has an inbuilt microphone and speaker for Bluetooth calling. I tried making some calls using it by connecting it to a smartphone, in which it seemed fine for talking indoors or in low noise, but I feel that
you would not like to talk on its speaker in a noisy environment. Keep in mind that some features like NFC payments, music storage are limited to only premium versions or some markets.
Amazfit Active 2: Battery
Regarding the battery of Amazfit Active 2, the brand claims that it can last up to 10 days, about 5 days with GPS on and 19 days in battery saver mode. The battery dropped around 30% in two days of use, which includes some notifications, screen on time and two to three calls of a few minutes. If this trend continues, the battery life could prove to be really impressive.
Amazfit Active 2: This much is clear in two days
The Amazfit Active 2 is a premium-looking smartwatch that promises a lot of features at a budget price. In two days of use, the design, display, and interface were my favorite parts. As for health and fitness tracking, that needs a longer testing period. If you're looking for a watch that looks expensive, has a good screen, and comes with basic smart features, the Amazfit Active 2 seems to be a strong contender for now. But if you're looking for medical-grade tracking or athlete-level data accuracy, this first impression is no guarantee. That will require intensive testing and review, which you'll probably get to read on our website in a few weeks. So until then, stay tuned to Gadgets 360.
