Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia and founder of Smart IVF Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, SpOG, SubspFER, MPH explained that as much as 35 percent of the causes of infertility disorders are male factors and the rest are factors of egg maturation or ovulation disorders.
"So the cause of fertility disorders is 35 percent because of the male factor. The rest, most of it is due to egg maturation or ovulation disorders. Usually if a woman doesn't mature her eggs, the easiest thing to see is her menstrual cycle is irregular," explained Budi when met at the hospital Primaya Evasari, Rawasari, Central Jakarta, Monday.
Furthermore, the cause of infertility in women can also be caused by other problems. For example, blockages in the oviducts, experiencing menstrual pain due to endometriosis, to having problems in the uterus.
"The next thing that causes fertility problems in women is obstruction of the oviducts. We know that women have 2 egg factories and 2 oviducts. It is in these channels that sperm and egg cells will meet. If this happens blockage, so they can't meet," said Budi.
"Third, which is quite common in women who often complain of menstrual pain. This is caused by chocolate cysts or endometriosis. Fourth, it can also be a disturbance in the uterus. In the uterus, disorders usually occur, the embryo cannot be attached if there is a myoma or polyps in it. ," he added.
Unlike women who can detect fertility problems from menstruation, Budi explained that men who experience fertility problems hardly feel any complaints. Therefore, Budi suggested that even men also check their fertility.
"This is really interesting. Men have no complaints. There are almost no complaints from men who experience infertility. Unless he has erectile dysfunction, obviously. That's why it's important to check his sperm. You can't see the quality with your eyes," said Budi.
"Currently it is certainly very good, many studies report that diets are high in protein, especially animal protein. For example fish, egg whites, milk, it is good for fertility problems. Then antioxidants, fruits that are red, orange, yellow, green, are high in antioxidants," explained Budi.
"Then also other micronutrients. For example vitamin D, folic acid, zinc, which are good. Calcium too. These are substances that are very good for the quality of egg cells, as well as sperm quality," he added.
Not only that, Budi also recommends that people adopt a healthy lifestyle. Especially to avoid smoking as well as alcohol which is very bad for the quality of egg cells and sperm.
In fact, some areas of work also need to be careful because it can cause fertility problems. For example someone who is often exposed to high temperatures, to people who work in radiology.
"What should not be forgotten is lifestyleor lifestyle huh. Careful. Smoking is not good for egg cells. Alcohol also damages the quality of the eggs. On sperm too. Moreover, heavy smokers," said Budi.
"Then jobs that are exposed to high temperatures . Bakers, toasters, bus drivers sit on top of the machines. Then exposure to radiation, these radiology workers be careful. Certain drugs too, types of chemotherapy are also not good for eggs and sperm," he concluded.
