The 64 editions that hold the Grammy Awards, some have managed to position themselves as internationally recognized artists, with an award from the Mexican National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.  The first time a Mexican managed to receive one of these prestigious awards was in 1985.

Although the history of the Grammys dates back to 1959, it was more than 20 years later that the Mexican man was honored at the most important gala in music.  Luis Miguel is the one who first took home the Academy Award in Mexico.

It was nominated for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Performance at the 27th edition of the Grammys El Sol, a category that had opened just a year earlier.  Their competition was Juan Gabriel with Memories II, Roberto Carlos with Concave and Convax, Yolanda Del Rio with A Special Love and Raphael with Eternally Yours.

Mickey won the award alongside Sheena Easton, with whom he played I Like You As You Are, one of the singer's many hits.

Luis Miguel was only 15 years old when he won his first Grammy, but in his 40-year artistic career he has collected 15 nominations at international awards and six Academy Awards.  He has been nominated 10 times at the Latin Grammys and won six awards.

In 1994, 1995, 1998, the artist from La Unconditional won another Grammys for Best Latin Pop Album, being the first with Mexican nationality to position himself in the category where Puerto Ricans usually won.  Aries, Segundo Romance and Nada es Igual were the albums they competed with and won.

In 2001 Pepe Aguilar also won his first Grammy in the Best Mexican/Mexican-American Performance category for his album Por Una Mujer Bonita. He won the award in 2001, 2007, 2008 and 2012.

Ramón Ayala managed to win a Grammy for the first time in 2002, after being nominated for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Performance six times and left empty-handed.

The first Mexicans to appear on the list of nominees in that category were La Differencia with Vicente Fernández, Todo with Juan Gabriel and Yo Te Nessio with Los Bucis.

Joan Sebastian was also one of the first people to be part of the Mexican recognized at the Grammy Awards, as her name entered the list of nominees and winners as Best Mexican/Mexican-American Performance for Lo Dijo El Corazón in 2003  Was.  Then, in 2004, they won the same award again and in 2007 they released Best Album of Banda Music, winning the award for the first time in this category.

Luis Miguel and Joan Sebastian have both been two of the Mexicans with the most Grammys, as the artist from Cuando Caliente el Sol won six awards, with Joan Sebastian having seven.
