The American software company Microsoft has crowned the Re-team team from Qatar University with first place in the final round of the Imagine Cup 2022
Competition at the level of Qatar, to qualify to represent the country in the world finals of the Imagine Cup competition in its version. 20, and the competition for the title of world champion in Seattle and the grand prize ($ 100,000).
The Imagine Cup is an annual competition held by Microsoft to discover young talents, where a number of young technology and talents from all over the world are invited to solve a number of intractable problems.
The competition includes software design, where several teams are formed, with no more than 4 participants per team, from secondary school level, vocational institutes and colleges, to provide software solutions that address a specific topic.
The Imagine Cup is considered the largest student competition in the field of information technology around the world, which seeks to provide educational and training opportunities on entrepreneurship and improve the technical capabilities and skills of young people to enhance their access to job opportunities.
Artificial intelligence and the cloud
This year's edition of the competition included technical and hands-on training on two of the world's most sought-after digital skills, artificial intelligence and core Microsoft Azure cloud concepts.
The RE-Team team from Qatar University won first place and a cash prize of $5,000, for The RE-Team Software application in the Earth category, qualifying to represent the country in the world finals of the competition that It will take place in Seattle, where the winner will receive the grand prize of $100,000 plus a private coaching and mentoring session with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella.
Commenting on their winning of first place in the Qatar Finals for the 2022 Imagine Cup, the "Re-Team" team expressed their joy at having the opportunity to represent Qatar in the World Finals in Seattle, according to a Microsoft statement, of which Al Jazeera obtained a copy.
The team members said: “We have finally succeeded! We are now one step closer to making Qatar look more future-ready with our eco-friendly project. We are excited to see fun and interactive robotic waste bins in malls that encourage people to sort their rubbish before it is disposed of.” We believe that these robots will attract children and teach them how to throw garbage in the designated trash and get a reward. Our project has the potential to educate the new generation to make recycling an essential thing."

The Oryx team from Qatar University won the second place and a sum of $3,000, for the “My Heart” application in the health category, which is a smart application for early prediction of the risk of heart disorders.
Regarding their winning of the competition, the Oryx team said: “Thanks to the advanced cloud technologies from Microsoft Azure, with the application of “My Heart” for early prediction of heart disorders, the safety of your heart remains in your hand.” The team thanked Microsoft and its training partner, Zaka AI, for this wonderful experience.
The Trojan team from Qatar University won the third place and a sum of $2,000, for the “Trojan Wave” application in the education category, which is a chatbot (a robotic speaker) that helps students choose their university major.
The team explained the idea of their project: “Most of the students have difficulty choosing a university major or moving between majors. Through the Trojan Wave, a chatbot (automated chat) via a website, we seek to save students time by providing the answer and suggesting the appropriate university major.” .
Qatar, Microsoft and technology partnership
The Imagine Cup comes as a platform for young developers in Qatar to devise practical solutions to some of the problems facing the world.
The Qatar edition of the Imagine Cup 2022 competition witnessed the participation of 130 male and female students, who learned about the latest Microsoft cloud technologies and harnessed them to provide innovative solutions in areas related to the environment, education, health and lifestyle in general. In the first phase of the competition, 10 projects competed, of which 9 qualified for the second round, and only 6 reached the national finals.
The jury for the Imagine Cup Qatar 2022 Final was comprised of Hassan El Sayed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Qatar, Dr. Juliet Ibrahim, Director of E-Health at the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar, and Mr. Karim Talhouk, Regional Director of Cloud Solutions at Microsoft.
Microsoft is also preparing to launch a new technical skills center that includes all Microsoft educational and training programs, as part of its national program to develop technical skills for 50,000 people in Qatar over the next five years.
