The largest mosaic panel in the world
Samer did not have the idea in passing, as it came from the core of his work as head of the Tourism Development and Heritage Preservation Society (founded in 2006, and affiliated with the Ministry of Tourism).
Samer told Anadolu Agency: "In 2013, the association launched the idea of creating the largest mosaic panel in the world, and the goal was to enter Madaba into the Guinness Book of Records, as a city of mosaics and tourism."
He explains that "the idea began with the work of the royal road, which is the oldest road in Jordan, and mentioned in the Torah and the obelisk of King Mesha, and we drew the most important tourist attractions in the Kingdom. Rome".
He points out that "it is the only painting in the world of this size, with a height of 6 meters and a length of 30 meters, and contains about two million stones from several different rocks, they were large blocks and were cut into small stones, and we started drawing and shaping this painting."
Post 120 thousand visitors
And he added: "After about two months from starting the work of the large international painting, we had no money left to complete it, so the idea came that the people of Madaba and its visitors contribute to its formation, and we suggested to each visitor the installation of a stone with his name written on it, and the idea was very popular, and the number of participants in it reached about 120,000 visitors, most notably Queen Rania Al Abdullah (wife of the King of Jordan).
In cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, the painting was placed in the Madaba Visitors Center; To inform the visitor upon arrival, which is a guide to the entire region.
