Eating sausage reduces lifespan by 27 minutes
Fast food topped the list of foods most harmful and affecting the average human life.
Sausages contain 61 grams of processed meat
A new study by researchers from the University of Michigan in the US, whose work was published in the journal Nature Food, revealed “scary” findings about the impact of unhealthy meals on life expectancy, especially those related to fast food.
According to what the scientists confirmed, this study was based on analyzing data related to 5,853 types of foods that are included in the classic American diet, and their direct impact on the average human life was revealed, before they ranked them from the most harmful at least, and then the most beneficial to human health.
The researchers found that fast food topped the list of the most harmful foods and affecting the average human lifespan, a result that did not come as a surprise to them.
Regarding the order of the worst, sausages came out on top, because they contain 61 grams of processed meat, which is equivalent - according to scientists' calculations - a loss of 27 minutes of healthy life, and it may rise to 36 minutes if soft and sugary drinks are added.
The ranking also stated that "charcuterie" or cold meat causes a person to lose more than 25 minutes of his healthy life, while an egg sandwich loses 11 minutes and a soft drink loses 8 minutes.
Red meat in turn causes a loss of 6 minutes, pizza 3 minutes, then butter 3 and a half minutes.
The silver lining from this study is that healthy foods can have the opposite effect; It can add a few minutes to a healthy age, as is the case with vegetables (3 minutes), fruits (12 minutes), and nuts (25 minutes).
